The Rousseaux lab at the University of Ottawa Brain and Mind Research Institute is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join its vibrant group as a Research Assistant. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of neurodegeneration research, specifically in the fields of Parkinson’s disease and ALS. As a member of the lab, the Research Assistant will contribute to cutting-edge projects and gain valuable hands-on experience in the realms of molecular biology and mouse husbandry.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in mouse colony maintenance.
  • Perform laboratory techniques in accordance with established protocols, ensuring accuracy, precision, and adherence to sterile techniques.
  • Maintain detailed and meticulous records of experimental procedures, observations, and results.
  • Collaborate closely with other team members, assist in the maintenance and organization of laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Participate in team meetings and track project progress.
  • Adhere to the safety regulations and guidelines established by the University and the laboratory.

Requirements:

  • Diploma in biotechnology (or equivalent) or an undergraduate degree in biological sciences.
  • Demonstrated understanding of molecular biology techniques and principles.
  • Willingness to work with animal models (prior experience is an asset)
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Meticulous note-taking skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in basic laboratory techniques and sterile techniques.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and implementing new techniques and methodologies.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience and in accordance with the University of Ottawa’s compensation guidelines. The University offers a comprehensive benefits package to eligible employees.
