Barbara Stead-Coyle joined Muscular Dystrophy Canada as the CEO in May 2016.
Since joining MDC, she has engineered a major restructuring that has significantly decreased fundraising costs and increased the funds directed to mission-related activities. She has also focused her efforts on policy development, budgeting processes, creating a culture of accountability and ensuring the MDC is positioned for strategic partnerships.
In her previous role, she was the National Vice President, Annual Development at the Canadian Cancer Society responsible for leading a nationwide team, streamlining fundraising efforts and standardizing fundraising portfolios for the country. Before that, Barbara was the Chief Executive Officer of the Nova Scotia Division, Canadian Cancer Society and CEO at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation, during which time she led a $5.5M capital campaign, increased annual revenues, and positioned the organization as the charity of choice in Cape Breton.
Barbara holds a Bachelor and Masters Degree from McGill University and has continued her professional advancement at the University of Wisconsin, Madison School of Business, Institute of Philanthropy, St Mary’s University (Conflict Resolution, Mediation & Negotiation), Queen’s University (Leadership Program) and was one of fifty not-for-profit leaders selected to attend the CommunityShift Program at the Ivey School of Business, Western University. As well, she holds a professional designation from CAGP. She is currently receiving her MBA at the University of Edinburgh.
Barbara represents MDC on the NMD4C Steering Committee.
