Biography

Dr. Laura McAdam is a pediatrician at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, Canada’s largest children’s paediatric rehabilitation hospital. Her clinical focus is rare genetic conditions specifically with children who have neuromuscular conditions or Rett syndrome. Dr. McAdam is also the Physician Director of Ambulatory Care at Holland Bloorview. She has successfully completed the Advanced Health Leadership Program through the Rotman School of Management Executive program at the University of Toronto and has completed the Global Clinical Scholars Research Training Program through the Office of Global Education at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. McAdam’s research focuses on three main areas: enhancing clinical care for children with neuromuscular conditions, advancing rehabilitation for children with rare diseases, and understanding the broader psychosocial impact of living with a rare condition. To achieve these goals, she leads investigator driven research projects focusing on rehabilitation, collaborates nationally and internationally in studies investigating natural history and chronic corticosteroid treatment effects, and participates in clinical trials. Through her research she seeks to bridge knowledge gaps, improve patient care, and address the multi-faceted challenges faced by individuals with rare diseases and their caregivers.

She is a past recipient of the Young Investigators Award from the annual meeting of the Child Neurology Society as well as the Elsevier Award from the World Muscle Society.
