Summary:
Sainte-Justine University Health Centre is the largest mother-child centre in Canada and one of the largest pediatric centres in North America, affiliated with Université de Montréal and located in the vibrant and bilingual city of Montreal. Our expert and experienced multidisciplinary neuromuscular team is composed of physicians (neurology, pediatrics, pneumology, cardiology, physiatry, orthopedics) and allied health professionals (clinical nurse specialist, nurse practitioner, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychology, social work, nutrition, clinical coordinators). Our neuromuscular team cares for around 330 patients from 0 to 21 years of age with diverse genetic and acquired neuromuscular disorders, which allows for exceptional clinical exposure. Our team provides both medical care and rehabilitation to our patients. We work in close collaboration with a translational research team (neurology, pathology, genetics and fundamental researchers) to characterize rare neuromuscular genetic disorders and discover new genes and phenotypes. High volume of pediatric nerve conduction studies and EMG. Exposure to muscle and nerve histopathology with Dr. Benjamin Ellezam. Dr. Cam-Tu Emilie Nguyen, the fellowship director and the medical director of the neuromuscular clinic, received the NMD4C award for Early-Career Clinical Researcher of the Year in 2023. Dr. Nguyen is a dynamic teacher and skilled communicator who has participated in multiple media interviews. In 2022, the residents of the pediatric neurology program unanimously voted her “Best Professor” of the program.
