Chair:

Speakers:

  • Dr. Alex Parker: Genetic models of neuromuscular disease
  • Dr. Rashmi Kothary: Peripheral organ gene therapy is important in SMA
  • Dr. Stefano Stifani: Harnessing the potential of IPSC-derived neurons and glia for modelling SMA and other motor neuron diseases

Learning objectives:

  1. What are the routes of administration of AAV vectors for gene therapy in SMA?
  2. Is restoring SMN to sites other than the central nervous system important for treatment in SMA?
  3. How to model neuromuscular disorders in the invertebrate C. elegans.
  4. Collaborative translational approaches using C. elegans.
  5. How to take cellular heterogeneity into consideration when modeling motor neuron disease using human iPSCs.

The NMD Rounds & Educational Webinars is a self-approved group learning activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
