NMD4C: The Neuromuscular Disease Network for Canada

Together with Muscular Dystrophy Canada (MDC), we’re excited to share our 2027 Neuromuscular Clinical Fellowship Funding Recipients! This year’s competition provided one-year salary support ($80,000) for our early-career clinicians to participate in Canadian neuromuscular medicine and electromyography (EMG) fellowship training programs. This fellowship program is made possible through generous funding from MDC in support of the next generation of neuromuscular researchers across Canada.

Congratulations to the 2027 Clinical Fellowship Funding Recipients!

Dr. Anna Branch | University of Ottawa

Dr. Anna Branch completed her undergraduate degree in Bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania, followed by her medical degree at Western University in London, Ontario. She subsequently matched to the Adult Neurology residency training program at Western University. During residency, she served as a Professional Association of Residents of Ontario representative and Site Chair, and was involved with resident advocacy, integration of technology into patient care, and medical education. She will complete the Neuromuscular fellowship at the University of Ottawa with support from the national clinical fellowship award.

Dr. Larissa Maini | University of Calgary

Dr. Larissa Maini completed her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacology and Therapeutics at McGill University before obtaining her medical degree from McMaster University. She is currently completing her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Ottawa, where she has
developed interests in neuromuscular medicine, electrodiagnostics, and medical education. She is excited to complete the Clinical Neuromuscular and EMG Fellowship Program at the University of Calgary.

Dr. Olumide Emmanuel Adegunna | University of Toronto

Dr. Olumide Emmanuel Adegunna, MBBS, MSc, is a Neurology Resident at the University of Toronto whose path through medicine has crossed continents and communities, while remaining grounded in one enduring purpose: to understand neurological disease deeply and care for the person living within it. A graduate of the Medical Neuroscience program at Dalhousie University, he brings together a strong foundation in translational neuroscience, clinical neurology, education, and collaborative care. His passion for neuromuscular neurology arises from the field’s rare union of careful observation, neurophysiological precision, longitudinal relationships, and rapidly expanding therapeutic possibility. He is thrilled to pursue advanced training through the University of Toronto City-Wide Neuromuscular Medicine and EMG Fellowship.

Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Competition Opens Next Week!

The 2027 Neuromuscular Postdoctoral Fellowship Funding Competition will open for applications on September 2, 2026.

As a part of our annual fellowship funding competition, NMD4C and MDC also hold postdoctoral fellowship awards in neuromuscular disease research. Our annual funding competition awards provides salary support for early-career scientists pursuing postdoctoral studies in neuromuscular disease research at a Canadian laboratory.  More information on how to apply for this year’s competition is now available on the competition webpage.
